What Is Up With This World?

This is a crazy world, however we must still navigate through it, while trying to remain sane - as sane as one can reasonably be expected to be. Consider my blog to be a rant to this world; it may point out the negative things taking place, but I promise to always try to put a positive spin on it, however difficult that may be. At any rate, I hope you all enjoy reading my posts.

Mental Giants?

For those of you in Lafayette, Louisiana, maybe you can confirm for me the identity of the mental giant who decided to close off an entire lane of University Avenue (between Evangeline Thruway and Pinhook Road) with about three feet of warning. The idiotic antics of our local governments never seem to amaze me. I kid you not when I say I left the light on the east side of the Thruway and traveled across University, only to come to a screeching halt just like the vehicles in front of me. Thank goodness I was paying attention. The left lane was completely blocked off and when I say there was about three feet of warning, I mean it. Some personal injury attorney should go throw up a billboard there this morning because I guarantee you it would pay for itself the first day.

It is a wonder that there was not already a fifteen car pileup near that area. Of course, the day has just begun, so you never know what will happen. The great news is that they are “patching” an area of the roadway. Translation: By this time next week, there will be an even bigger crater in that area. Local folks know when the roads are “patched”, they end up in a more deteriorated condition than before the so-called repairs began – and they had the nerve to recently install a sign near the I-49/I-10 cloverleaf that says, “PROMISES MADE. PROMISES KEPT.” This was near an area where a deathtrap was recently installed. One-half of a lane was added to the exit ramp from westbound I-10. No one bothered to remove the striping that was there beforehand – they just painted over it and next to the old striping. Let me just tell you that at about 5:30 in the evening, that creates quite a bit of chaos in that area. If something is not done about it before long, there will certainly be a series of horrible accidents. Once again, our tax dollars at work. A sign that had previously been located just south of the I-49/Pont des Mouton exit had the total costs of repairs posted and it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.3 million dollars. Somebody apparently forgot to wait on their change. I drive through that area nearly every day and each time I think to myself, what on earth cost over a million dollars. What did they do besides made a bigger mess of a merge lane that was already a hot mess? Then I remember what state I am in and it all becomes much clearer . . . somebody got a new German automobile or swimming pool or we inadvertently contributed to the college fund of a kid belonging to a local “hero”.

At any rate, I hope each of you has a good day. I just had to vent my frustration somewhere and what better place than a site called What Is Up With This World? And people ask me where I came up with that name . . . live in my world for a few days and you will no longer have to wonder.
