What Is Up With This World?

This is a crazy world, however we must still navigate through it, while trying to remain sane - as sane as one can reasonably be expected to be. Consider my blog to be a rant to this world; it may point out the negative things taking place, but I promise to always try to put a positive spin on it, however difficult that may be. At any rate, I hope you all enjoy reading my posts.

Mental Giants? (Part Dieux)

So my first post of the day is going to start out a little something like this:

Dear Road Crew,

Are you stupid? Did you fall on your head? Are you smoking crack? No? Well, what’s the problem? You took a perfectly hot mess and made it hotter. Where is your common sense?

Signed,

Taxpayer Fed Up On Stupidity

You may want to reference my first post from yesterday before reading any further – the one entitled “Mental Giants?” So I am traveling to work this morning, right? I take the same route as I did yesterday. For those of you familiar with Lafayette, Louisiana, I am traveling just past the airport, crossing Evangeline Thruway and entering University Avenue (near Beaver Park and the Vermilion River). As you will see from yesterday’s post, some mental giant decided to blockade the left lane of University Avenue (for repairs) without any warning whatsoever. This created mass havoc during morning rush hour – just what Lafayette needs more of, huh? Apparently my complaints – or those of others – were heard because someone got the brilliant idea (between 7:50 a.m. yesterday and 7:50 a.m. today) to erect a sign alerting drivers that the roadway was becoming a one-lane. That is great and all, but a word of advice – this should be done at the beginning of the roadway, not directly in front of the cones blocking off the roadway. The object of the game at that point is to give drivers fair warning that something in their path is about to change swiftly. When erected properly, those types of signs alert the drivers entering that portion of the roadway that well ahead of them, the road will turn from two lanes to one. This gives drivers time to change lanes, slow down, etc. It is kind of pointless to put the sign a few feet ahead of where the roadwork begins. In that instance, drivers have begun to accelerate and do not have time to do much of anything, except slam on their brakes and swerve to miss other vehicles. So basically, someone tried to fix this problem and in my opinion, made it worse than it was yesterday. Shocking (enter sarcasm here).

I was lucky. I experienced the stupidity yesterday and I was fully expecting something real retarded to take place today. I was not disappointed. I was prepared to change lanes at a moment’s notice or to take whatever evasive action the situation warranted. Unfortunately, most of the drivers ahead of me did not have the same foresight. I saw three vehicles swerve and nearly strike each other because the drivers were not given adequate warning. After that, I nearly got hit from someone suddenly changing lanes behind me, causing them to nearly hit the vehicle next to me . . . oh, I am sure you get the picture. Lafayette traffic – what else can I say? Some times it is no wonder why the rest of the world thinks we are all idiots. Certainly, we are not, but it is a reputation that is somewhat well deserved because of a few who have been put in charge.

Louisiana . . . gotta love it.
